Waitangi Treaty Grounds is New Zealand’s most important historic site where in 1840 Aotearoa New Zealand’s founding document the Treaty of Waitangi, Te Tiriti o Waitangi was signed. Enjoy the two new contemporary museums, Treaty House, Te Whare Rūnanga, and the world’s largest ceremonial waka with the all-inclusive Experience Pass.

Waitangi Treaty Grounds welcomes you on a journey of the place where much of New Zealand’s history was shaped.
An absolute must-do for all visitors to New Zealand, the award-winning Waitangi Treaty Grounds is a national treasure and tells our nation’s history of the Treaty of Waitangi, Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Often called the ‘Birthplace of our Nation’, Waitangi weaves together the strands and stories of many peoples, events and places to reveal the rich cultural history of our nation, offering an inspiring and meaningful experience for every visitor.
Enjoy an interactive full day experience in the two contemporary museums, powerful Māori cultural performances in Te Whare Rūnanga, insightful guided tours, native forest and gardens, carving studio, traditional Māori waka (canoe), and café all with views over the Bay of Islands.
During the summer months, Waitangi Treaty Grounds also offers the Hāngi & Concert evening experience.

Cancellation Policy

No refunds or cancellations will be given on bookings for the general admission.

Promotions or special prices are not to be used in conjunction with any other offer and are subject to the terms and conditions stated in each promotion, which may differ from offer to offer.

In the unlikely event that a booked experience is cancelled due to unforseen circumstances or minimum numbers have not been met, Waitangi Treaty Grounds will refund the paid amount in full

Admission bookings cancelled more than 48 hours prior to the activity date receive a full refund.

Private Tours and Hāngi & Concert bookings cancelled more than 7 days prior to the activity date receive a full refund.

COVID cancellation policy:

If New Zealand COVID-19 level or international travel bubbles change visitors receive a full refund.

At Waitangi Treaty Grounds we are committed to keeping our visitors and staff safe. A range of COVID-19 safety measures are in place.

Hand sanitiser stations are available at entrance points to the Grounds, museums, Treaty House, Te Whare Rūnanga and Whare Waka Café.
Audio devices used during guided tours will continue to be sanitised after every tour.
Please do not visit Waitangi Treaty Grounds if you feel unwell or have any symptoms.
